Apple’s Environment Report

Apple’s Environment Report

Apple have released their 2021 Environment Progress Report covering 2020. Despite shipping more devices in 2020 compared to 2019, Greenhouse gas emissions are down to 22,600,000 in 2020 from 25,100,000 in 2019.

Apple’s corporate offices are carbon neutral as of April 2020, with the goal of being carbon neutral as a whole by 2030. They are planning to reduce emissions by 75% and the remaining emissions being offset with investment in carbon removal solutions.

Another highlight is that 40% of the material in the MacBook Air with Retina display now comes from recycled sources, with 100% of the enclosure being made from recycled aluminium. Great to see one of the world’s largest companies leading the way in reducing their environmental footprint, however the greenest option by far is still buying refurbished.
